Ryan Balton, a 2007 graduate of Delaware Valley High School, was elected general manager of the nation's oldest and largest student-run television station serving Syracuse University. A junior with a dual major in education policy studies and television, radio and film, he has served on the station's executive staff as Web media director.

A controversial board process to fill a vacancy on the Delaware Valley School Board was taken out of their hands Wednesday afternoon. Pike County Court of Common Pleas Judge Gregory Chalek accepted candidate Jack Fisher’s petition based on the board’s failure to fill the vacancy within 30 days.

Ryan Balton of Milford, leaves no doubt that broadcast journalism is where he's headed after graduation from Syracuse University where he plans to major in public communications.

He's fascinated by the turn that the media has taken on the internet and video and audio forms.

He already as an impressive resume by working as a correspondent for The Gazette in Milford, editor-in-chief of his school newspaper, The Del Aware, editor of his high school web site, DVWorld and director of the school's video news Broadcast Del Val.

"Two years ago we started a Pod Cast, an online audio show. It's the first of its kind in the world by high school students," he said proudly.

Odyssey recognized

Despite appearances, Delaware Valley senior Ryan Balton was not stalking school board President John Wroblewski on April 19: He was setting up a video presentation he created on the district’s Odyssey of the Mind teams, five of which recently advanced to the upcoming world competition in Michigan. Balton won a $2,000, Line Mountain Scholarship at the state finals earlier this spring.

The Pennsylvania High School Computer Fair is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Area high schools compete against one another within their local Intermediate Unit in eight categories pertaining to technology.
